Dit boek is een herdruk van een uitgave die oorspronkelijk in 1981 verscheen als vervolg op “Het transgalactisch liftershandboek” (ook bekend als “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”). “Het transgalactisch liftershandboek” was niet alleen succesvol als roman, maar ook als televisieserie en hoorspel (in Nederland uitgezonden door de KRO). Het tweede boek is een aaneenschakeling van grappige, absurde belevenissen van vier personages tijdens hun chaotische reizen door het universum. Hun avonturen worden opgefleurd met citaten uit “Het transgalactisch liftershandboek”. Na veertien jaar heeft dit boek nog niets van zijn charme verloren. Het is een kostelijke parodie op sciencefiction, de mens, het heelal en de rest.
