De poëziebundel “Achilleus megalopsuchos” van Saint-Rémy, uitgegeven door Soethoudt in 1975, bestaat uit 218 pagina’s en is een eerste editie. Deze uitgave, gedrukt als genaaide softcover in de Kijkgat paperback-serie, verkeert in uitstekende staat.
“Achilleus megalopsuchos” presenteert de mythe van Achilles in honderd kwatrijnen. Tegenover elk kwatrijn staat een beknopte inhoud van het gebeuren, een originele voorstellingswijze die voornamelijk beoogt de lezer te betrekken bij de evolutie van het verhaal naar het poëma. In de opvatting van de dichter gaat de scheppingsdrang het onderwerp vooraf: als de scheppingsdrang niet is wat hij moet zijn, blijft zelfs het boeiendste onderwerp beneden de eis die het gedicht, voornamelijk het kwatrijn, in de eerste plaats stelt, namelijk het essentiële uit het accidentele te distilleren.

“Achilleus megalopsuchos” presents the myth of Achilles in one hundred quatrains. Each quatrain is accompanied by a concise summary of the events, offering an original approach that primarily aims to engage the reader in the evolution of the story towards the poem. According to the poet’s perspective, the creative impulse precedes the subject matter: if the creative impulse is not as it should be, even the most fascinating subject falls short of the poem’s requirement, particularly the quatrain’s, to distill the essential from the accidental.
