Valentine Dobrée was a painter, sculptor, writer and poet; from figure paintings in the 1920s, she later experimented with cubism, surrealism and collages. She was a friend of the writer Margaret Storm Jameson, and also connected with the Bloomsbury group.
She became the lover of Ralph Partridge, husband of Dora Carrington, who moved Valentine (actually Gladys) Dobrée into their family home at Tidmarsh..
