Clearly influenced by François Mazot’s Le tableau de la croix (1651–1653), Pierre Landry’s guide to the mass consists of thirty-five two-page openings comprising seventy plates with thirty-five leaves of text for individual prayers and thirty-five full-page illustrations. The individual images illustrate in order the sequence of the mass and each plate includes a parallel scene from the Passion depicted in a framed illustration. The church interiors include detailed representations of the altar, decorated walls, and floors. Following Landry’s death, his engraving and publishing business was continued by his daughter Gabrielle Landry, who issued an edition of La sainte messe in 1720. Her husband, the book publisher François Jouenne, also issued an edition utilizing the same or similar plates before his death in 1740..
